Built to last
Harold Bennett built half the porches in this town — or so it feels to everyone who sat on one. A finish carpenter by trade and a volunteer firefighter for twenty-two years, he measured a man's worth the way he measured lumber: twice, carefully, and with respect for the grain.
He married his high-school sweetheart, Carol, in 1963. Together they raised two sons, restored a 1968 pickup truck over eleven patient years, and never missed a grandchild's birthday — arriving early, toolbox in the truck, ready to fix whatever the house needed.
Survived and preceded
Harold is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Carol; his sons Robert and Michael; five grandchildren; and his workshop, which the family has donated to the high school woodshop program.
Services
A celebration of life was held in the Larkspur Memorial Chapel with full fire-service honors. Burial followed in the veterans' section of the memorial park. The family thanks the crew of Station 4, who stood watch through the night.
