A voice that healed
Rosa Delgado spent nineteen years as a hospice nurse, holding the hands of strangers' mothers as if they were her own. Then, impossibly, she is the one we gather to remember — gone too soon at fifty-seven, with the same grace she gave to hundreds of families.
She sang in the church choir, cooked enough tamales every December to feed the block, and raised three children who inherited her laugh — loud, sudden, and impossible not to join. Her kitchen was open to every teenager on the street, and her advice, though rarely requested, was always exactly right.
Survived by
Rosa is survived by her husband Marcus; her children Elena, Sofia and Marcus Jr.; her mother Teresa; and two brothers, Jorge and Luis. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernesto.
Services
A vigil and funeral Mass were celebrated at St. Anne's, followed by a celebration of life in our reception garden with mariachi music — her explicit request, recorded years ago with a wink. Memorial gifts support nursing scholarships at the community college.
